Food Resources for Kids

  School Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks
  • Open to children ages 5-18 who are in elementary, middle or high school full-time. In order to qualify for a free or reduced price school meal you must complete the School Meals Application provided by your child's school.
  • Your family income must be at or below 130% of poverty for free meals OR at or below 185% of poverty for reduced-price meals (see charts below.)
  • A full lunch is available in all Massachusetts schools. Full breakfast is available in about 60% of schools.
  • Snacks may be available in after school programs that provide educational or enrichment activity.

The income requirements for school meals and food stamps are similar.

  • If your child gets free or reduced price school meals, it is very likely that your household will qualify for food stamps.
  • If you get food stamps, your child automatically qualifies for free school meals.
  • Even if you don’t qualify for food stamps, your child might still qualify for free or reduced price school meals.
